Case Study: Maria Esther

One of the very first things you notice about Maria Esther when you meet her is her incredible smile. At age 6, she is still learning to how to walk and talk, but you cannot help but sense her determination to master these basic life skills. Born with extra fluid surrounding her brain, Maria had a shunt placed at 5 months in an attempt to prevent further brain damage. She requires regular visits to her neurologist in order to ensure that the shunt continues to function properly. In addition, Maria has been receiving physical therapy at a local school 3 times a week. Her young single mother is very grateful for the support of the Rosa Vera Fund.
